Jang Zion is a clarinetist born in Seoul, South Korea, who demonstrated exceptional musical talent from an early age. He studied at Sunhwa Arts School and Sunhwa Arts High School and he completed Bachelor’s degree at the National University of Singapore with a full-scholarship. Then, he earned his Master degree at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste and is currently continuing in the Specialized Master Solist under professor Fabio di Càsola, further refining his artistry as a professional musician. Alongside his academic pursuits, he has performed as a freelance musician with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra and the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra, gaining extensive international experience. He has appeared in a wide range of performances, including “Musik und Gulag” at Tonhalle Zürich, a collaboration with the Swiss5 Quintet, and concerts with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra under conductor Robert Spano, consistently demonstrating musical depth and distinction as a clarinetist. He has also achieved remarkable success in numerous international competitions, winning first prize at several prestigious events including the International Clarinet Festival in Singapore, as well as earning second prize at the Concerto Competition of Yong Siew Toh Conservatory and third prize at the Ewha-KyungHyang Competition, thereby establishing his excellence as a performer. In addition, he was awarded Gold with Honours at the International Ensemble Competition, further recognizing his outstanding musicianship in ensemble performance. In 2018, he took part in a historic performance during the Panmunjom Declaration between the leaders of South and North Korea, and has performed at significant international events, including a ceremony honoring former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and Singapore President Tony Tan. With his refined tone, solid technique, and profound musical interpretation, Jang Zion continues to develop as a versatile musician who bridges both solo and orchestral performance, and is expected to further expand his artistic presence on stages around the world.

Taking pride of place was clarinetist Jang Zion for his characterful solo, borne of ripe, creamy tone that will remain long in the memory.
